How To Stop How-ing

July 11, 2011
Whisper Message

Have you ever felt like you were banging your head against a wall trying to figure out an answer to a question or get a solution to a problem but to no avail?  No doubt you have!  We all have at some point in time.

Certain questions invoke intuition while others invoke logic when logic isn’t what is needed and it only leaves you blocked, frustrated, and confused.

LaRue caught herself HOWing this week; hence the reason for today’s message.

Today’s message is very simple, but quite profound when applied.

Enjoy!

So there we were, my husband and I,deciding how to hang a new piece of art. This piece unlike any we’ve done would hang on the wall hinged like a door with panels inserted into a frame. One side of the panels he painted the other I painted. He was attempting to decide if he should insert the panels first then hang it or hang the hinged frame first then insert the panels. His question was “how can I…?”. As I stood there remembering this Weekly Whisper message, I asked, “What is the best way to hang this?” Immediately I saw one side hung, and the other side hung after the panels were inserted. I said nothing. Meanwhile, my husband went around in circles trying to analyze the best ‘how to’ scenario. Finally, in a triumphant exclamation of realization he uttered the very idea that I had visualized 10 minutes earlier! Both the what and the how eventually matched… but my goodness intuition is a whole lot faster!! :)

Good message thanks. And I agree that a shorter message can be a good thing.

It reminds me of a quote I once read. I can’t recall the name of the person right now, but he/she said something like: “Forgive me for writing such a long letter, I didn’t have time to write a short one”. It can take a lot of thought or editing (or inspiration) to condense something important into an effective, concise form.

I appreciated the central idea of this message. I must remember to ask ‘what’ not ‘how’.

Best wishes from New Zealand…. Stephen Coote.

I once read somewhere that wanting to know “how” is an addiction. I have been in recovery for a long time! I have prayed to lose my craving for knowing HOW. Just think how many “how-to” books there are. How to “blah-blah-blah” for Dummies. I guess we think we are Dummies if we don’t know HOW to do something. How have we gotten hypnotized into believing that we don’t know? We have dismissed our inner voice’s innate divine KNOWING for the impostor of HOW. Like alcohol or drugs, it keeps us from the real issue of what- what works for me? What do I really love? What am I avoiding? What makes my heart sing with joy? I LOVE this message, La Rue! How always shows up when we step into WHAT- and not a minute beforehand! Your message goes straight to my Divine which always knows what and doesn’t really need to know HOW anymore! Just keep moving toward the WHAT. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…

Right on!! I can see that “how” is an addiction–just like our addiction to logic. Thank you for your words of wisdom said only like you can say!
